MCCONNELL SEEKS COLORADO STATE SENATE DISTRICT 8

(Steamboat Springs CO) Ret. Colonel Bob McConnell, former candidate for the Third US Congressional District of Colorado is vying for the Senate District 8 seat being vacated by Al White (R- Hayden) who has been appointed director of the Colorado Tourism Office. A Republican vacancy committee meets on January 3, 2011 at the Moffat County Courthouse in Craig to decide who will finish the remaining two years of White's term.

"I would like to serve the people of Colorado," McConnell said, "And more than ever, we need a solid conservative in the state senate, because the Senate is run by a Democrat majority."

McConnell ran his congressional campaign based on conservative principles including limited government, free markets, fiscal discipline, and individual rights. He was an advocate for state's rights and promised massive spending cuts at the federal level.

"That's exactly what we need in Colorado as well," McConnell noted, "We need to balance the budget. Also, lots of people need work and we have lots of work that needs to be done."

The vacancy committee is composed of nine people, including Republican party chairs of the six counties in District 8: Jackson, Routt, Moffat, Rio Blanco, and parts of Eagle and Garfield. In the Republican congressional primary, McConnell handily carried Routt county, as well as Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. Al White's wife Jean is seeking to replace her husband. She is also a member of the vacancy committee.

"This is an opportunity for the Republican party in Colorado to regain its conservative momentum," McConnell said.

Tired of unresponsive "representatives" who do as they're told?

Governance is too important to leave in the hands of politicians. We need to hold our representatives feet to the fire. We must watch every bill, demand that they read it fully and listen to us. We must be relentless in our civic duty because we have been asleep too long.

I'm a conservative Republican who ran for Congress in Colorado's Third Congressional District in 2010. Though I lost the primary I gained an amazing insight into how politics works, and I met hundreds of wonderful, concerned citizens. Let's stay engaged in the mission.
