NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION

I have never been good about New Year's Resolutions, and don't even remember when I last made one. However, this year is different. Our country is in crisis as we enter 2010. The United States have created the greatest engine for economic prosperity, and the greatest vehicle for protecting human rights in the history of the world. The States, United have become the bright shining light of freedom and economic prosperity for the rest of the world. No country in history can match what we have accomplished. The road we have followed to this success is mapped out for us in our Constitution.

We have arrived at a fork in the road, and we must make a choice. The road that our parents, and their parents before them followed leads, as it always has, to more hard work. Staying on this road requires, as it always has, that we stand up and if need be, fight for what we know is right.

The choice we face is whether to follow a radically different path. Down that path, a voice is singing "follow me-everyone gets everything for free, and no one has to pay for anything". That path is tempting. Yet it leads inevitably to darkness, poverty, loss of self-respect, and the loss of freedom. It is the path to Marxism. Our Founders warned us to resist this temptation before Carl Marx was even born. They recognized the role of government is to protect equal rights, not to provide equal things. They recognized the mortal danger of allowing the federal government to become a welfare state.

We are at a fork in the road. Our way of life is being stolen. Americans need to stand up for what we know is right. I resolve the following:

1. 2010 is the year we must get government out of our way. We must let Americans do what we do best: create jobs and take care of each other, with our own hard work, ingenuity, grit, and determination.

2. 2010 is the year we must remember why the same men who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to win our freedom, made "IN GOD WE TRUST" our national motto.

3. 2010 is the year we must exercise our unalienable right to choose our representatives in a transparent democratic process. We want ideas and leadership. We don't want our representatives bought for us by political action committees, or chosen for us by political machines.

4. 2010 is the year we must restore States Rights to their proper place as checks and balances against a federal government that is out of control.

5. 2010 is the year we must take our country back.

America needs us. America needs you. "Do not go gentle into the night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Register to vote. Help others register to vote. Find out where your precinct caucus meets on March 16th and be there. Be a delegate for me to the Republican State Convention on May 21st and 22nd in Denver. You have the right to choose the men and women who will be your voice at every level of government. Exercise your right, or it will be lost.

Join me in this fight to take our country back, because failure is not an option.

Tired of unresponsive "representatives" who do as they're told?

Governance is too important to leave in the hands of politicians. We need to hold our representatives feet to the fire. We must watch every bill, demand that they read it fully and listen to us. We must be relentless in our civic duty because we have been asleep too long.

I'm a conservative Republican who ran for Congress in Colorado's Third Congressional District in 2010. Though I lost the primary I gained an amazing insight into how politics works, and I met hundreds of wonderful, concerned citizens. Let's stay engaged in the mission.
